Our Man in Europe, dave delacroix, in MEXICO, Tje Cancun Diaries, No. 38: French Lessons.
NOW WHEN I WAS BACK IN MEMORY SCHOOL, West Riding-Yorkshire-U.K. the KIDS were DEAD MEADOWS? I personally HAYSTACKED-ZOMBIE thru last term...but I STARRED in WOODWORK CLASS and BIOLOGY (Amputated dead HEN) and proved my Penile metal with several Country Maidens - AS they did with ME - whose CLAN, a decade later I would feel awkward to being introduced. Kind-a early Youth-shit that comes back to haunt U...!?
YOWSA! In a LAND of Tradition, a Culture of RUGGER Saturdays, rain, snow or shine I, HISTORICALLY surmise that the Battle of Waterloo was NOT won on the "Fields" of Rugby but that we never knew who the Frick we were and HATED most of our Social SCHOOL "Cell-mates". Folks from different "Shires"? As for Camaraderie? When we beat the crap out of our Rugger School neighbors WE WERE DAH FEW: raised in the shadow of Spitfires, Lancaster Bombers. Bloody Commandoes! It was ALL BULLY. Nail Em! U-ed get a Medal!
Last year I had the opportunity to live in England. In THIS instance, down in Cornwall. Bunch of Ancient Cornish clowns/old school ties sang: "16,000 Cornish Men". Alas, the Neanderthal Spirit prevails. Their WIVES - if they have any? - were not present. As for ME?...I guess I skipped the mental slaughter of Waterloo or some Nazi flaming my tail?
Now when "I" was back in MEMORY SCHOOL some Gal-Clown was lecturing, the French Lesson Class; kids mostly, were paying attention/trying to look interested, but MIO, apart from operating the 1/4 tape recorder; "Le Chat et sur la mur", repeated ad nauseum, I was pretty much daydreaming, starring out of the window....Probably saved my Rugby-battered CEREBULEM or my present VICTORY-ROLL in the sky: Go figure?
