Our Man in Europe, dave delacroix, in MEXICO: The Cancun Diaries, No.34: When Lonesomeness was King.
The SAD GIG, the sad Cafe, the sad restaurant with token sad couple, the Solo-diners, bored, lonesome drifters, the dejected-abstract Waiter caught in pale yellow glare of what used to be the sad - Banned! - Tobacco Counter; a zillion retired Gualoise/Gitannes robbed of their ashtray AD-glory, the Accordion, Mandolin with broken strings now caked in grime-detritous, hung on walls like Safari trophies?
Who sings of the Sad Cafes? Bar-MAZARIN -Paris? The York Minster -London? McSorley-s Old Ale House -New York City? -FROTHING now in their Unisex Toilets, bloody WOG illiterate Bar-tenders or the Dillatente-obsessed with "Selfies", attitudes en masse/conversation CELL-Phone City!?
OH, how I sing of the Sad Cafe, the immortal "GAFF" when SMOKING, libations-eternal prevailed, the harrague, the argument, the fierce laughter, the TOASTS... and yet when Lonesomeness was King!?...
