Our Man in Europe/now Belize: Dave Delacroix: "My Old Tuxedo."
(dedicato: Steven St. James)
My old Tuxedo? Poor old Sod. Weddings, funerals, Wakes (?) it's seen the lot! On STAGE, Concertinas, Rock N' Roll Festivals & Bars; spilt drinks, cigarette ash, Champagne scars? U don't know the MEANING of Heartbreak!
My old Tuxedo witnessed...WITNESS! To folly & glory, Bohemian debauchery, ROMANCE drenched in a past Life of MUSIC, kisses & RAGE, immortalized-Paparazzi foto-craze? Adios! Unlike my old GUITAR, utility's fortune: still to be strummed...
My old Tuxedo? After I'm gone, a THRIFT STORE? Picked over & pecked by fingers un-worthy or ripped/shredded in the latest costume Slasher Flick? Or stared at in a glass case, an exhibit, some Clowns Music "Hall of Fame" (Lame?), a Madame Tussauds alongside histories idiots/murderers?
My old Tuxedo, after I'm dead & gone? Our Glory Daze! -lingers on, threadbare, no mortal exit, no Neophyte to recount its singular Fame? An existence. now un-worn, HUNG BY THE NECK; a Song of Songs of all we use, lose, abandon, and forget.
